There are times when we urgently need to find foster care for a child or young person. This could be because their parent has been unexpectedly taken into hospital or they have become involved in a serious child protection issue.
Children and young people needing emergency care may never have been fostered before and are likely to be frightened and confused. By welcoming them into your home for one night, a week or maybe longer, you’ll be providing them with the best possible care.
Once we’ve safely placed a child or young person, we’ll work with the Local Authority whilst they undertake an assessment to decide the most appropriate course of action. This could result in a decision for them to return safely home, seek a longer term placement or remain with you in the short-term while we establish further plans.
Whenever you take an emergency placement – whether it’s during the daytime, in the middle of the night or at the weekend – we’ll be there for you. Your local out of hours team will provide you with practical, one-to-one support.
