A parent and child placement involves a young parent, normally a mother and baby, coming to stay in your home at a time when they need extra care and guidance.
It may be that the young person is going through court proceedings and requires a parenting assessment, or they could have learning difficulties and need a secure environment to learn how to care for their child.
You’ll help to keep the baby safe while supporting the young person to develop their parenting skills and monitoring their progress.
Every young person is different, which is why we offer three types of parent and child placement:
Assessment placements provide an assessment of a parent’s ability to care for their child and involve regular meetings. They last around 12 weeks.
Pre-birth placements prepare expectant mothers for the birth of their baby by helping them to build their confidence and develop safe parenting skills.
Parenting support placements provide a safe environment where parents can learn how to provide basic care and guidance for their child.
Parent and child fostering is highly rewarding, but it can be challenging too. Thanks to our comprehensive support and training you’ll benefit from regular visits and contact from a dedicated Social Worker. You’ll also receive expert guidance and advice from a therapist, education officer and Support Worker, along with a wealth of other benefits.
As a parent and child carer you’ll receive an enhanced fostering allowance to recognise your specialist skills and commitment.
