The North Lanarkshire couple who have been fostering with FCA Scotland for 15 years, first thought about fostering after attending an information event.
When talking about the support of FCA Scotland, Elaine said: “We love working with FCA Scotland. Their Team Parenting approach is just brilliant to know that you are not alone, there are other people there to help you in this journey that you are on with the children.”
She continues: “It’s also the training that they give you, they push you to better yourself, to keep learning.”
Iain adds: “It’s the support for the children as well, the events that they organise for the children and young people - there is always something going on. They are a fabulous company to work for, the support is second to none.”
Elaine explains: “We always know if we pick up the phone and we need anything, someone will answer that call for us. That to me is crucial and is the most important thing.”
When asked about what advice the couple would give to those thinking about fostering, Elaine replied: “Look at your options, we would of course recommend FCA Scotland because the service you get from them is absolutely superior. But it’s also looking at your family, your extended family, what in your community that you can make use of with the young people that you will take into your home.
Lastly, she said: “Don’t do it all yourself. Your social worker is there for you. A lot of people feel that if they phone, they are failing, but that’s not what it’s about. It’s having a team around you to help look after this child.”
