Forever Families

Can you give a child a Forever Family?

Childrens_services_0031Forever Families is our new permanent fostering service. When it’s not possible for a child to return to their birth family, we work with the Local Authority to find a permanent foster home for them.

Our aim is to help each child grow up as part of a stable, secure family. We call it being ‘claimed’ as a member of the family, from childhood into adulthood and beyond.

Forever Families is founded on our years of experience and skills in short-term as well as long-term fostering, we now need new foster carers to provide permanent homes for the young people to give them the experience of a Forever Family.

How is permanent fostering different to Short-Term fostering?

The difference is that while Short-Term fostering provides a home for the child while their future care plan is decided, permanent fostering may be the decision of the child’s care plan. Permanent fostering means providing a family to a child for life without the legal basis of adoption, the child’s birth family may have minimal or no role in the child’s life. Each child’s circumstances will be different and you will be supported and included in the plans for any child placed with you.

We are currently recruiting people to become potential foster carers to provide a Forever Family for the children placed in Short-Term foster care whose care plan is permanence.  This means from the outset you will be assessed to become a Permanent Foster Carer.

How does Forever Families work?

We work closely with the Local Authority to match children who need a Forever Family with the best permanent foster family for them.

If you want to give a foster child a Forever Family, the assessment process is similar to other types of fostering assessments. You’ll need to complete a home visit, attend 3 days of training, complete an application form and then Start Your Journey to foster a child permanently with us.  When you enquire the process will be shared with you, it takes between 4 & 6 months to complete.

It’s an incredibly rewarding experience, but it’s not without its challenges. That’s why we can give you additional training specific to the permanence task.

How we can help you

We offer all our carers 24/7 support and it’s no different for our Forever Families foster carers. Around the clock, our local team of social workers, therapists, education specialists and support workers are here to help you and your foster child, based on the needs of the child in your care.
